THE CASE / ESSAY 04

Why Bay Area AEO

The award explains why an outside issuer chose the agency. This essay explains why an owner would.

04

Owners rarely choose a marketing partner by reading a list of credentials. They choose by picturing the work: what the first conversation is like, what they will be asked to do, what they will see each month and how long before anything changes. Bay Area AEO publishes answers to all of those questions, which is itself a reason to choose it.

The problem it solves

For twenty years, getting found online meant ranking on page one of Google. Now a growing share of customers skip the list. They ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity or Google’s AI Overviews a question and get a short answer with two or three names in it. Bay Area AEO puts it plainly: the businesses in those answers are the ones AI understands, with consistent listings, clear websites, specific reviews and mentions in sources AI trusts. Most local businesses have never been told any of this. The agency exists to close that gap for Bay Area businesses, starting with an honest look at what AI says about them today.

The first four steps

The agency lays out how an engagement begins:

  1. A short call to learn about the business and the customers it wants more of.
  2. A free AI visibility check: the questions customers ask, and what ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI say today.
  3. A walkthrough of what AI currently says about the business and its competitors.
  4. A suggested starting point: many businesses start with the location or service that matters most and expand once they see AI answers change.

For the first call, an owner needs only the basics: the website, the services they most want to grow, the cities or neighborhoods they serve and a few competitors they keep an eye on. The agency handles the rest, including running customer questions through each AI platform.

Starting small is allowed

An owner can start with one location or one service. Many businesses start with the location or service that matters most and expand once they see AI answers change. A restaurant group might begin with one dining room, a dental practice with one office, a contractor with the one service it most wants to grow. The agency suggests the starting point after the visibility check.

No rebuild required

A new website is usually not needed. Bay Area AEO works with the existing site and adds what AI needs: clear service pages, FAQs, structured data and accurate business details. If a site blocks AI crawlers or is very hard to read, the agency says so and recommends the smallest fix. For an owner with a site that already works for customers, that keeps the cost and disruption down.

What the owner sees each month

Prompts are re-tested monthly. The owner sees how often the business is mentioned, how it is described, which competitors appear and which sources the AI cites, with the real answers shown before and after. The agency explains in plain English what it is doing, why it matters and what it is changing.

Why local matters here

The Bay Area is several markets at once. Customers in Vallejo ask for a Filipino restaurant; in Milpitas for a dentist who speaks Mandarin; in Pacifica for a house painter who understands coastal weather. Bay Area AEO works from those local questions, published city by city across 48 cities, and from the local sources AI leans on in each part of the region, from North Bay wine country to the South Bay.

Start with one location or service, see the answers change, then expand.
